Fayzan Rehman - The Scottish Liberal Democrat candidate for Stirling

Fayzan Rehman is the Scottish Liberal Democrat prospective parliamentary candidate for Stirling. Raised in England, he went to university in Wales, completed a masters degree in Scotland and his young family is settled in Stirling. Many of us have will have study, work and family connections across our home nations of the UK and further afield across Europe. This flexibility and freedom of movement is absolutely key to our modern way of life. Brexit or IndyRef2 will be a travesty facing our families, our jobs, local communities and for our children's futures. Fayzan continues to campaign against having a border in the English Channel or at Gretna Green.

Having a daughter with disabilities, provides insight into the challenges facing the most vulnerable. Fayzan supports local disability charities. It is disgraceful that Tories have cut taxes for the wealthy, during times of austerity, whilst the SNP has cynically forced budget cuts onto local councils. Really vital services for the most vulnerable have already been lost and others are at risk. Fayzan will fight Tory/SNP austerity, calling for investment in vital public services.

As the next MP for Stirling, Fayzan will seek to represent the views of local people and campaign for solutions to our local issues. To thrive, local businesses need support to help them thrive in uncertain times. Our high streets need revitalising. A renewed focus on the basics is required: roads, improving local bus networks, broadband, more affordable housing, flood prevention and much more! We fight poverty that is blighting Scotland, along with the highest drug death rates and prison populations in Europe. All families should have warm homes; our schools to be the best; adults supported with lifelong training. We can make Scotland a cleaner and greener home for our families. These are some of Fayzan's campaign themes on the climate emergency:

  • To foster healthier lifestyles, we need segregated cycle lanes, such as between schools and their local communities; between the Stirling railway station, the business parks and Blair Drummond safari park - serving both commuters and tourists.
  • Scotland can become carbon neutral quicker. With current technology trains and buses can go emission free - via either electric or hydrogen fuel sources.
  • The standards for new build homes need radical changes. Scotland's existing housing stock needs improving. Warmer homes, means lower bills for those in fuel poverty.
  • We need to protect our planet and not cause its destruction. Palm fat/palm oil is now in much of our foods and comes from deforested jungles.

If you share our dreams of a positive vision for the future, to make Stirling and Scotland a better place for our families - join us, Demand Better for Stirling and make these things a reality.
