We oppose the threat to local schools and education in Clackmannanshire

The Scottish Liberal Democrats insist that we need to invest in the education of our children; they are our future. It is a disgrace that the Scottish Government has been cutting the budgets of local councils, pushing councils such as Clackmannanshire Council to the edge of bankruptcy. In the run up to the 2019/20 budget, the Clacks council had been considering closing some of our local primary schools, or reducing the number of hours that our children get taught. Local parents are really worried about the potential impact on their children. It does not need to be this way. The Liberal Democrats demand better for our children's education. On the 6th March the council approved £4.810 million in budget cuts from services. Where the cuts will fall is very worrying for residents of our wee county.

John Biggam - Central Clacks by-election 28 MarchJohn Biggam, the Scottish Liberal Democrats candidate for the Clackmannanshire Central ward said:

"We call on the Scottish Government to reverse their budget cuts for Clackmannanshire Council, so that the threat of further cuts to local services, such as to our children's schools can be immediately cancelled. If the Scottish Government is serious about helping deprived communities, we need to invest in local services."
