What are your NHS priorities?

Our NHS key workers have worked bravely and tirelessly through the Covid-19 epidemic to look after us and keep us safe. Thank you NHS key workers.

But the Scottish Government is failing the NHS and especially Forth Valley residents:

  • The Forth Valley region now has the longest Accident and Emergency waiting times in the whole of Scotland.
  • Stirling has a very large rural community, with difficult access to hospitals by public transport. Some buses aren't accessible to residents with disabilities.
  • New hospital builds such as the new Edinburgh sick kids, have been mismanaged and delayed. While it was inevitable Covid would have an additional impact, ministers should be ashamed by the long succession of delays and the astronomical cost of mismanagement.
  • Covid-19 has had an impact on NHS services, but delays for access to key health services have now rocketed.
  • On the SNP's watch thousands of children have waited over a year for the mental health treatment they need. These long waits are disruptive and have a devastating effect on their readiness to learn. Waiting over a year for help feels like a lifetime for them and their families.
  • Drug deaths across the Forth Valley are still rising. Too many families have been scarred by these problems and drained by their attempts to seek help at depleted local facilities. The SNP's 22% cut to drug and alcohol partnerships in 2016/17 was a bewildering mistake. Services and expertise which people relied on were lost.
  • Scotland has one of the highest prison populations in Europe. The SNP has failed to make real improvements in rehabilitation. The Scottish Liberal Democrats have set out a clear, practical plan of how to turn the crisis in drug misuse around. It includes protecting partnership budgets, sending people to treatment instead of prison, and establishing proposals for a Scotland-wide network for the provision of heroin-assisted treatment.
